If you are one of those people who never got round to learning to
drive and now need to do so, you may find it difficult to
incorporate weekly driving lessons into your busy life schedule.
You may find city roads just too stressful for a beginner. Or
perhaps you want to brush up on your driving skills and learn
about advanced driving techniques.
Why not “get away from it all” for a few days to concentrate
on your driving in the beautiful Llangynog area of mid Wales?
During the day you can focus on learning to drive, and in the
evenings you will find plenty of opportunity to relax and/or
brush up on what you have learned.

Learning to Drive
You will benefit from intensive lessons with David Layland A.D.I.
- an experienced and accomplished driving instructor who specialises in this kind of
tuition. Courses will be tailored to suit you, so you can go out
for a morning, an afternoon, or a whole day - with suitable breaks of course!
Lessons can take place in the quiet of the countryside, progressing on
to the challenge of market towns such as Oswestry, Bala or
Welshpool.
The vehicle is the new and acclaimed Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 (with dual
controls).

After
the demands of the day you can relax ... perhaps with a walk in
the stunning countryside, a meal and sociable evening in one of
Llangynog's friendly pubs, or some time spent reading up in
connection with your driving. I have a range of driving
materials and videos to help you.
All of which should refresh you for
the challenge of the next day's learning, free from the usual
worries and pressures of everyday life.

What about my driving test?
For full details, click here
to see the DSA website.
Theory test
You must pass the theory test before you can take your driving test. Don't worry if you haven't taken your theory test yet; I will be happy to help during the course.
|
Driving test
To apply for this
you must already have passed the theory test, but more significantly
you must be up to the standard to be in with a realistic chance
of passing. It is my job to help you reach this standard. Some
pupils like to have a test to aim for – say at the end of
the week. This can be arranged, but bear in mind it is an additional
pressure and there is no guarantee of reaching test standard.
In most cases I would advise taking the test after you have returned
home, probably after further practice.
Either way, the choice is yours but the objective remains to learn
to drive in a friendly, relaxed and unpressured setting - in this
beautiful corner of Wales.
Please note - I am
unable to book tests on behalf of pupils and/or make advance block
bookings. It is therefore up to you to make your own enquiries
and book your own test after discussing my availability with me
(the DSA test line is 0870 010 1372; the test centres I use are
Oswestry and Bala). There is usually a waiting list of several
weeks for tests.

Advanced driving
You do not have to be a beginner to benefit from my
courses. You may have learned to drive some time ago and now be lacking in confidence, or you may wish to learn advanced driving skills as promoted by the
Institute of Advanced Motorists. Did you know that improving your driving skills not only makes you a much safer driver, but can also dramatically reduce your petrol consumption and help you save on insurance costs. Ask me
for further details.

The area
Llangynog is a small, friendly village in beautiful countryside in north Powys, the ideal place to provide a relaxing environment for you to learn to drive – and unwind afterwards. The local roads are quiet to enable you to build up your confidence, but the market towns of Oswestry, Bala and Welshpool are within easy reach, so you can gain plenty of experience of traffic and town driving.
Click here to view a map of the area .
There is a choice of accommodation locally, such as the 17th Century New Inn, homely bed and breakfast accommodation or self-catering cottages. Meals are available in the New Inn and the Tanat Hotel, both in the centre of the village. I can
advise you on where to stay and facilities in the area.
Getting here? ... No problem, as I can collect you from railway stations near Oswestry (Gobowen) or in Welshpool and return you there at the end of your stay. It couldn't be easier.

To give you a rough idea of the cost, a full day's lesson involving
5 hours' tuition and 1½ hours’ breaks is £80.
A half day session with 3 hours’ tuition and a ½-hour
